Trust in the Lord despite your emotions

A personal experience of the writer Ellen G. White

We find ourselves in deep shadow because Satan has come between us and the bright rays of the Sun of Righteousness. In moments of tribulation, this glow is eclipsed, and we do not understand why it gives us the impression that security disappears. We are led to look at self, which prevents us from receiving the comfort in the cross—not in its shadow—for us. We complain about the way, and we remove our hands from Christ's. But sometimes, the favor of God suddenly breaks into the soul, and the shadows are dispelled. Let us live in the light of the cross of Calvary. Let's no longer dwell in the shadows complaining about our pain because that only increases our tribulation.

Let us never forget, even when we are walking through the valley, that Christ is with us both when we walk confidently and when we are on the top of the mountain. The voice told us: "Will you not lay your burden on the Burden Bearer, the Lord Jesus Christ? Will you not dwell on the bright side of the cross, saying: 'I know whom I have believed, and I am sure that he is able to keep my deposit for that day'? "Whom you love without having seen him, in whom believing, even though you do not see him now, you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy; obtaining the end of your faith, which is the salvation of your souls." 2 Timothy 1:12; 1 Peter 1:8, 9.

It is true that I have stumbled in the shadow of the cross. It is not common for me to feel dominated and suffer as much depression of spirit as has happened in the last few months. I would not like to be found playing games with my own soul and, therefore, with my Savior. I could not teach that Jesus came out of the grave, that he ascended on high, and that he lives to intercede for us before the Father unless I put my teachings into practice and believe in him for salvation, depositing my helpless soul in Jesus in supplication. Grace, justice, peace, and love. I must trust him no matter how many changes occur in my emotional atmosphere. I must manifest the praises of the one who called me "out of darkness into his admirable light." 1 Peter 2:9. My heart must remain steadfast in Christ, my Saviour, to behold his love and his gracious goodness. I must not trust him only from time to time but always so that he can manifest the results of abiding in Him who purchased me with his precious blood. I must learn to believe in his promises and accept them as the sure word of God in order to have a stable faith.

Many who love God and try to honor his fear that they have no right to claim his rich promises. They refer to his toilsome struggles and the darkness that spreads across his path, and in doing so, they lose sight of the light of love that Jesus Christ shed on them. They lose sight of the great redemption purchased for them at infinite cost. Many are standing far away as if they are afraid to touch even the hem of Christ's robe, but his gracious invitation is extended even to them, and he continues to plead, "Come to me, all ye labored." and laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls; For my yoke it is easy, and my burden light". Matthew 11:28-30

Ellen G. White was chosen by God to be His messenger for these final days of this earth's history. She received the biblical gift of prophecy, described as the testimony of Jesus mentioned in Rev. 12:17 and described in Rev. 19:10 as the spirit of prophecy. She has been the most translated author in the entire history of literature. Her writings cover a wide range of topics, including religion, social relationships, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, creationism, agriculture, theology, evangelism, Christian living, education, and health. Despite her failing health, God was her strength. During her lifetime, she wrote more than 5,000 newspaper articles and 40 books. By 2022, there will be more than 200 titles available in the English language and nearly 100 books in Spanish, all of which have been drawn from her articles and manuscripts. Her books have been translated into more than 144 languages around the world.
